The European Union is moving to impose stricter anti-money laundering (AML) regulations on cryptocurrency transactions. Eurogroup President Paschal Donohoe revealed plans to extend financial tracking requirements to crypto-asset service providers during the European Anti-Financial Crime Summit 2025.

The proposed rules would mandate recording sender and recipient data for crypto transfers, mirroring traditional financial oversight. Donohoe emphasized the necessity of applying these measures to digital assets, stating they are essential for maintaining transparency in evolving financial markets.

This regulatory expansion reflects growing institutional scrutiny of cryptocurrency transactions across the EU bloc. The MOVE signals a maturation of crypto oversight as authorities seek parity between digital and traditional finance systems.
